Air Fryer Philly Chicken Burritos Recipe

I developed these Air Fryer Chicken Philly Burritos as a last-minute weeknight dinner, and they immediately became a family favorite. They combine the savory, melty goodness of a chicken philly sandwich with the convenience and crispiness of the air fryer, making them perfect for busy evenings.

When I’m not running this food blog, I teach second grade, so quick, reliable dinners are essential for our household. This recipe is straightforward, uses common ingredients, and comes together quickly — the kind of meal that rescues a hectic day.

Here’s how to make Air Fryer Chicken Philly Burritos

The filling is essentially a deconstructed chicken philly: bite-sized pieces of chicken cooked with sliced onions, green bell pepper, and mushrooms. Sauté everything in a skillet over medium-high heat until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.

Season the mixture with kosher salt and pepper, and add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes for heat. I also use Old Bay seasoning for extra depth, but plain seasoned salt works as a substitute if you don’t have Old Bay on hand.

Cook the filling for about 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally so everything browns evenly and flavors meld. Once the filling is ready, prepare four burrito-size flour tortillas on a flat surface.

In the center of each tortilla place two slices of provolone and about 1/4 cup of queso (I used a white queso for creaminess). The queso is what makes these ultra-creamy and cheesy—don’t skip it.

Spoon a quarter of the chicken philly filling onto each tortilla, fold the sides in, then fold the front over and roll tightly into a burrito. If filling spills, tuck it back in before sealing the roll.

Place the burritos seam-side down in the air fryer basket and give them a light spray of olive oil cooking spray. Cook at 370°F (188°C) for about 15 minutes, or until the tortillas are golden brown and crispy.

Depending on your air fryer’s capacity, you may need to cook them in two batches. My fryer fits two at a time; while the first batch disappeared quickly, the second batch was ready by the time we were halfway through the first.

When the burritos come out of the air fryer, let them rest for a few minutes so the cheese sets a bit. Then cut in half and serve. These are hot and melty straight from the fryer, so a short cooling period makes them easier to eat.

Tips and variations

  • Swap provolone for mozzarella or fontina for a different melty profile.
  • Add sliced jalapeños or a drizzle of hot sauce to the filling for more heat.
  • Use leftover rotisserie chicken to shorten prep time.
  • For a crispier tortilla, brush a little melted butter on the outside instead of using cooking spray.
