These are a hit with kids and easy enough for them to help prepare. The colorful finish and sparkly sprinkles make each bite look like a tiny moon rock.

Turn a sweet treat into a cosmic one!

Moon Rock Cookie Dough Bites are simply edible cookie dough balls dipped in a marbled coating of black, pink, and turquoise candy melts, then finished with galaxy-themed sprinkles and silver or gold sanding sugar. The contrast of deep black with bright colors and glittery sugar gives each bite an out-of-this-world appearance.

What you need to make Moon Rock Cookie Dough Bites

You’ll need edible cookie dough—I used Nestle Funfetti edible cookie dough from the grocery store. For the coating, choose three candy melt colors: black, bright pink, and turquoise. You can substitute similar shades if you prefer, but black helps create the “moon rock” look. For decoration, use galaxy-themed sprinkles and silver or gold sanding sugar.

  • 1 container Nestle Funfetti edible cookie dough
  • About 1 1/2 cups black candy melts (enough to fully coat the bites)
  • 1/2 cup bright pink candy melts
  • 1/2 cup turquoise candy melts
  • Galaxy-themed sprinkles
  • Silver or gold sanding sugar

How to make Moon Rock Cookie Dough Bites

1. Prepare a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Use a small or medium ice cream scoop to portion the edible cookie dough into balls. Roll each scoop briefly in your hands to make smooth rounds and place them on the prepared sheet. One 15 oz container typically yields about ten medium-sized balls; using a smaller scoop gives more bite-sized pieces.

2. Freeze the dough balls for 30 minutes. Chilled cookie dough is much easier to coat without losing shape.

3. While the dough chills, melt your candy melts in separate microwave-safe bowls. Melt the black candy melts in a larger batch so you have enough for full coverage. Heat in 20–30 second increments, stirring between intervals, until completely smooth. If the candy melts are thick, add a small amount of an approved thinning product specifically made for candy melts, or a tiny neutral oil, to reach a fluid consistency. Melt the pink and turquoise in smaller bowls so they’re ready for drizzling.

4. Arrange your workspace with an extra sheet of wax paper, the melted candy bowls side by side, and small bowls of galaxy sprinkles and sanding sugar within reach. Work quickly once you start dipping.

5. Using two forks or a dipping tool, submerge a frozen cookie dough ball into the black candy melts until fully coated. Lift it out and let excess drip back into the bowl. Drizzle small spoonfuls of pink and turquoise candy melts over the top to create a tie-dye or marbled effect. If desired, add a touch of purple or another accent color sparingly for depth.

6. Set the coated ball on the wax paper and immediately sprinkle on galaxy sprinkles and a pinch of sanding sugar to finish. Continue dipping and decorating each ball until complete.

7. Allow the candy coating to fully harden, about 15–30 minutes at room temperature. For faster setting, place the tray briefly in the refrigerator once the coating has just begun to firm.

Storage

Store finished Moon Rock Cookie Dough Bites in a sealed container in the refrigerator for 4–5 days. Bring to room temperature briefly before serving for the best texture.
